Foundation Models & Agents
How can foundation models and AI agents reason, plan, use tools, and work reliably across tasks and environments?
01 —UAIRI is a New York-based independent, not-for-profit AI research organization working toward open technical research and cross-institutional collaboration. We seek to advance reliable AI and make knowledge more accessible.
We aim to advance AI through rigorous technical inquiry, open methods, and collaboration across research communities. Our work will focus on creating useful knowledge, sharing reproducible findings, and connecting people and institutions around meaningful scientific questions.
The areas below describe directions of exploration, not claims of completed programs or published results.
How can foundation models and AI agents reason, plan, use tools, and work reliably across tasks and environments?
01 —What makes an AI system trustworthy, measurable, reproducible, and robust under real-world conditions?
02 —How might computational methods accelerate discovery, support scientific workflows, and improve access to knowledge?
03 —How can researchers, institutions, and practitioners collaborate on open methods, share knowledge, and strengthen independent AI research?
04 —These are planned areas of exploration. Projects and publications will be announced as the institute develops.
UAIRI plans to release its research projects, technical writing, and open resources as they become available. Updates will appear here.
A research culture begins with the questions it is willing to ask and the evidence it requires to answer them.
Formulate clear hypotheses and identify assumptions that deserve examination.
Favor traceable methods, careful evaluation, and honest discussion of limitations.
Consider safety, human impact, and the conditions under which systems are used.
Share methods, results, and tools wherever feasible, and encourage dialogue with the wider research community.
The Universal Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Inc. (UAIRI) was incorporated as a New York not-for-profit corporation on September 16, 2026. We are building a research-oriented institution focused on AI technology, open knowledge, and cooperation across research communities. Our projects and publications will be introduced progressively.
The work begins with a willingness to examine what we do not yet know.
